What you can make

The main styles are called :

Kettering -An open backed slide with a strap across.

Huntingfield - otherwise known as a mary jane or ballet flat.

Derby - a lace up style with 4 pieces in the upper.

Orford - another lace up style with 3 pieces in the upper.

Bridport - a shoe with a strap across - more enclosed than a huntingfield.

These shoes were made on a weekend by beginners and are examples of the main styles described above.

       Kettering        Huntingfield                     Derby                              Orford                            Bridport

All of the above can be made on a different shaped last. The last is the mould that you will use to make your shoes. Your choice of last is partly based on the shape of your feet but also on your preference. So that I can be prepared for the weekend I need you to choose a last that you like.

All of the styles above are easy enough to construct on a weekend workshop providing the embellishments and edge finishes are kept simple. If you try to do too much on a weekend workshop you run the risk of not finishing your shoes on the weekend. See the next page - beginners course - to get an idea of the kinds of embellishment and decorative options you can achieve.
